Hi all,

We have an idea …….. so here ‘tis below …….
Expressions of interest are open until

5pm Tuesday 3 October to C.Bowie at griffith.edu.au

Then we will decide on Wed 4 October if the process / session will run for
this Colloquium.

Call for Expression of Interest for Participation in a
Cameo / Showcase of Programs
(Induction, Foundations or Graduate Certificate)

One of the three outcomes flagged in the Carrick Grant Proposal:
Preparing University Teachers: A model for national collaboration
(submitted mid 2006 by the working party for the FUT Colloquium network)
focuses on the Progression of Scholarship. Elaboration of this section
included the following outcomes:
· a process for benchmarking and peer feedback
· common tools for evaluating the impact of Foundations programs on
teaching quality

In response to this initiative, and also to feedback from last years
colloquium about requests for a resource table where programs and
materials could be viewed, discussed, shared etc, we have designed a
process to seed into all of these things. ……… It is something to have a go
at, as a first pass and learn from the experience………

Process

Would you like to hear about other Foundations and Graduate Certificate or
Induction Programs?
Would you like to talk about the Program that you offer?
Would you like some scholarly comment on some facet of your program?
Would you be happy to give some scholarly comment on some facet of another
program?
If you answered yes to any of these questions then you may be interested
in participating in this session at the Colloquium this year.

Below is an Overview of the Process we are suggesting. Feedback and
comments or suggestions are certainly welcome.

If you are interested, please respond with the following details by reply
email to Carol Bowie at GIHE at C.Bowie at griffith.edu.au

Name: ………………………
Program Title: ……………….
Program type: ……………………Foundations, Grad Cert, Induction etc.
Are you the Convenor? ……………………..
Are you teaching in the program? ……………….
Contact details:
Address: ………………………………
Phone: ……………………………….
Fax: …………………………………
Email: ………………………………

Would you be happy to be a discussant? ………………..
(see role in Process description below.)

We have initially scheduled one set of three concurrent sessions at
3.30-4.30pm on Monday 23 October. This would facilitate presentations by
six programs. (We would like to have at least two Foundations and two Grad
Certs.) If there is more interest, then we have space to run a second set
of three concurrent sessions allowing for another six presentations.

So get in quickly! First in first served!

Soooo …….. What do you think about the idea?
Any feedback, comments ideas etc welcome!!!

Cheers,

Carol

Have a good day!

PREPARATION

Some of the following types of information might be useful to include:
· program description or outline
· content (literature, scope, concepts, connections etc.)
· aims and objectives
· learning outcomes
· teaching and learning activities
· assessment strategies and tools
· evaluation strategies and tools
· access, mode of delivery and timing
· who teaches in the program
· policy requirements / recommendations
· program philosophy or rationale or alignment statement
· resources, costs, time release
· what is unique about this program that makes it the XX University
program? (Identity? Character? Flavour? Experiences?)
The session ppt slides and any other relevant documentation will need to
be emailed to the discussant so that they can prepare for the role on the
day. This will need to be by Friday 13 October. If needed, the discussants
could email the presenter(s) if they have further questions for
clarification etc.

PRESENTATION

The presentation would be 10mins followed by 5 mins (max) questions from
the audience. So we suggest around 20 PPT slides or OHTs

If there is a particular facet of the program that you are talking about,
that you would like the audience to give you feedback on at the end of the
session, then please put that question on one of the PPT slides early in
the session as a focus question for the audience. We will include it in a
written feedback sheet given to the audience at the end of the session for
you. Other questions for that sheet will be negotiated later with those
involved in presentations at the session.

DISCUSSANT ROLE

This role will require the person to give scholarly comment about the
facets of the program that the presenter flags as the focus for feedback.
They will have two programs to respond to and will have 10 mins to speak
at the session. This could include their feedback and seed questions for
audience participation and discussion also.

FOLLOW UP

A written report (maybe a page???) could be given to the presenter by the
discussant on the day of the session or emailed afterwards.

After the Colloquium we will ask for feedback about experiences from
presenters, discussants, chairs and audiences.
