[Foundations] Teaching and Learning Weeks

Dear all,
In the case of UWA we have instigated a Teaching and Learning Month which
has been running since 2006. It is held in May, towards the end of first
semester. It recently received acknowledgement with an AUQA commendation.

While designated as a month in which faculty are encouraged to focus on a
relevant T+L issue of their choice, there is actually about 2 weeks of
shared/public activities which are organised by our central teaching and
learning unit (CATL), individual faculties, student groups and student
services. The overall responsibility of the running of the month lies with
CATL. The events include the University's teaching awards (including the
Vice Chancellor's invitational lecture delivered by a distinguished current
university teacher or accomplished member of the University's alumni,
workshops from visiting scholars, a hypothetical involving staff, students
and invited local identities, a staff vs student debate. This year a
successful day-long Teaching and Learning Research Colloquium was also
introduced to the program. A full list of this years' activities can be
seen at:
http://www.catl.uwa.edu.au/teachingmonth

With best wishes

Lee

Hi folks

We're planning to run our inaugural Learning and Teaching Week in June 2010,
and would be so thankful if you could share any information, advice,
schedules etc from your T&L week, if you have one.

We'll collate responses and distribute back to the lists, and invite you to
our L&T Week next year :)

Thanks
Tilly

HI Everyone,
The UC Learning and Teaching week is normally in September (so no dates
for 2010 yet). This year it is 13-17 July. The focus is on
work-integrated learning which is one of our signature themes. The date
change allowed us to focus the week on the overseas visitors we have at
UC at the moment working on this topic. Our program for 2009 is at:
http://www.canberra.edu.au/tlc/current-events/current/test2
If you are in Canberra please come along.

Great idea Tilly to share our dates for 2010.

Cheers
coralie

Hello all

Deakin doesn't have a T & L week as such, but has recently concluded another
successful Teaching and Learning Conference. The theme this year was
'student engagement'. The conference program is available at

Regards
Terry.

Hi all,

As part of the 50th anniversary celebration at Monash last year (
http://www.calt.monash.edu.au/Quality/sclt.html), we had a week of events
in the first week of October called Educate08.

Educate 08 was coordinated by the Office of DVC (Education) and it
included a whole day 'conference style' event organised/hosted by CALT (
http://www.monash.edu.au/teaching/vcshowcase/), public lectures and
debates. There were also other "Learning and Teaching Showcase" events
which held in different campuses, spread over a number of months (
http://www.calt.monash.edu.au/showcase/caltshowcase.html).

Last year's success has resulted in the decision to have Educate09 which
is currently being finalised by ODVCE, and it will include the whole-day
VC's Showcase event. The "Learning and Teaching Showcase" series has
started (http://www.calt.monash.edu.au/showcase/caltshowcase.html).

Cheers,
Elizabeth
