[Foundations] Threshold concepts

Hi all

I've just been introducing academics in our Grad Cert to 'threshold
concepts' (Meyer and Land 2005 Higher Education 49: 373-388)- the idea
that was the focus of a session in last years Foundations Colloquim.
'Threshold concepts' is an idea familiar to me from the Science
Education literature of the 1980s and 90's, but I have struggled to make
the idea relevent to all academics in the variety of disciplines
represented in our Grad Cert.

The Foundations Colloquium session helped me to appreciate that I could
repackage the idea in a way that was relevent to all the disciplines
present. And the academics in the Grad Cert session expressed a sense of
intrigued interest, that we will be able to build on in weeks to come.
In previous years, I'd struggled to, and felt that I did not succeed in,
conveying the same idea in different terms.

So, thanks to the Threshold Concepts team. For me, the best thing about
the Colloquium is (besides seeing everyone again) finding out about
specific things people do, how people facilitate specific
concepts/skills/attitudes. So...

...what is happening with this years colloquium?

Regards

John
