Hi all,
We're still using Cannon & Newble (2000) A handbook for Teachers in
Universities and Colleges - A Guide to improving Teaching Methods. 4th
Edition. Kogan Page. It's basic enough for those who are likely to be
frightened off by 'jargon' - but also provides reading lists to extend
further.
The book pre-dates current technologies of course.
For these we refer to Crisp, G (2007) The e-Assessment Handbook. Continuum.
ISBN 0-8264-9628-8.
What is clear from this book is the power of assessment to drive learning -
and a focus on the underlying learning principles - alignment with learning
objectives and activities - which apply to assessments of all kinds.
We also provide participants with access to Phil Race (n.d) "In at the Deep
End" Leeds Metropolitan University www.leedsmet.ac.uk for many useful tips,
to satisfy immediate teaching needs, but at the same time to provide useful
discussion starters for delving deeper and helping new participants in
beginning to develop at their own 'learning and teaching philosophies'.

University Teaching
Hi all
We're on the hunt for a replacement academic staff induction text/s. For
several years, new USC staff have received copies of Murphy E. 1998,
Lecturing at University, CEA Publications, Curtin University. (new teaching
staff) and Bertola, P. & Murphy, E., 1994, Tutoring at University, CEA
Publications, Curtin University. (new teaching staff and sessionals). These
are no longer in print.
I'd be thankful for responses as to what text/s you use/recommend. I'll
compile a summary of responses at the end of October and circulate back to
the lists.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers
Tilly
