The fund provides financial support for Wellington-based researchers to engage with global associations and build their international profiles. It’s designed to remove a key barrier many researchers face,  the cost of participating in international networks and positioning themselves to bid for major events.



Funding supports attendance at two to three editions of a chosen international conference, with the longer-term goal of hosting that conference in Wellington.

Round One VUW Fund Recipients

The three successful inaugural applicants are Dr Frankie Fong from the School of Psychological Sciences, Dr Alex Doronin from the School of Engineering and Computer Science, and Dr Jennifer Campbell-Meier from the School of Information Management.



‘I applied to the fund because I wanted to strengthen my international profile and contribute to ASIS&T’s global initiatives. I had already been working with the BEW team, who supported me to successfully bid for and secure an international conference of 200–300 delegates in 2027. Their support typically includes assistance with budget preparation and funding to attend one conference to present the bid. The additional support from the International Conference Leaders’ Fund means I can attend several ASIS&T events to build my networks and host a Board member of ASIS&T at the 2027 conference I’m hosting.
